  • Learn more complex pieces using sheet music or playing by ear
  • Learn to play drum solos in different musical contexts

Advanced Rhythms and Musical Styles (Jazz, Reggae, Latin, World beat, Progressive Rock, Drum & Bass, Jungle)

  • Revisit basic rhythms (Pop, Rock, Funk, etc.) and learn how to add more flavor using accents, ghost notes, and color
  • Explore jazz swing, fusion, and Afro-jazz rhythms
  • Explore Latin and Brazilian styles (Afro-Cuban, Samba, Bossa Nova, Songo, etc.)

General Concepts

  • Advanced exercises to strengthen groove and timing
  • Learn to infuse your playing with emotion and nuance
  • Review complex rhythmic figures (sextuplets, 32nd notes, swing feel)
  • Explore polyrhythms
  • Develop your unique sound and musical voice as a drummer
  • Overview of musical structures and rhythmic forms

Stick and Pedal Technique

  • Advanced rudiments (paradiddle variations, flams, rudimental solos)
  • Apply rudiments across the entire drum kit
  • Exercises to develop speed, endurance, precision, and control
  • Exercises to refine your sound, dynamics, accents, ghost notes, and phrasing

Creativity

  • Improvise and jam across various styles and tempos
  • Explore various approaches to improvising a musical piece
  • Learn how to be inspire by a rhythm and transform into your own creative idea
  • Exercises to cultivate your personal creativity by integrating studied rhythms

History of Drumming

These sessions also explore the evolution of drumming and the impact of key drummers on various musical styles over time.

 

Pricing

Flexible options to fit your schedule and budget: courses are available weekly, bi-weekly, or as needed. Lessons can be scheduled for 1 hour, 90 minutes or up to two hours.

Intensive sessions are also available for international students.
